Human beings are incredibly good at believing that there are patterns in the chaos where none actually or naturally exist. Once we are convinced that there is a pattern in what we are seeing we tend to look only at the evidence that confirms that belief. This is true in religion, science, education, and among other fields. The cynical part of me wants to believe all those things are just placebos and that they only work to the extent that we believe they work. But even that philosophical notion is subject to my own confirmation bias. I am becoming more optimistic in general but my placebo pessimism still persists. Y’all are just figments of my imagination and no matter how frantically you type you can’t prove otherwise. I enjoy the attempts though. What do you think?
