Freedom or Authority

It’s Independence Day in the USA. We celebrate our freedom from a distant king. Of course here in Wisconsin we are just as distant and unheard as the early colonists. The question of the day is about what I am an authority over. I’d like to say myself. I’d like to claim that I am an example of self governance. I would like to say I am free from the law layed upon me by the city, state, and federal authorities. I’d like to say that but I can’t. It’s said that if mores are sufficient laws are unnecessary but if mores are insufficient laws are enforceable. In the end I am not much of a person to make myself ungovernable. The powers that be have way too much authority over my life.
