This is markezuma. He is my personal super hero. His name is also my preferred handle on the internet. Sometimes he serves as my alter ego. His super powers are to turn invisible and desolid. He is also an incredible diplomat. When he is not playing video games with me, he tries to bring peace to the world. He’s the sort of hero that will go into war zones and convince people to stop shooting. Since his powers make him immune to conventional weapons, soldiers that won’t stop attacking find his presence demoralizing. When things are about to hit him the areas they would strike phase out and those things pass right through him. This is especially true for the target on his chest. It draws fire to his least vulnerable area. He wears a helmet to deflect headshots since things passing through his advanced brain can derail this thoughts. He is courageous and intelligent. He helps the downtrodden and cheats the oppressors of their victims. He is a paragon of virtue. Unfortunately he is also completely imaginary, so can only give you moral support.
The name markezuma comes from playing video games. Many years ago I played Sid Meyer’s civilization and liked to pick the Aztecs because their cities looked cool. At the beginning of the game it asks you to name your leader, and for the Aztecs it suggests Montezuma. I switched the beginning of the word to mark and my internet handle was born. I started using it on the web and found that no one other than myself ever tries to use it. If you put “markezuma” into a search engine you will find things I’ve done online all the way back to Myspace and Geocities accounts. I am markezuma in cyberspace and I am everywhere.
As an alternative to my real personality which likes to sit on the computer and my phone drawing and writing, markezuma is very outgoing. He travels the web looking for people to inspire to peace, and justice, and virtue. Unlike me he is never at a loss for words and doesn’t lose his temper. The world does make him sad sometimes, but that happens to all of us. Again he is only an illusion, but he will at least be your imaginary friend. He always comes home, so don’t expect him to stay. If markezuma visits you treat him well, and he will lift your spirits.

Black Cat July 10
My wife Stephanie and I have two black cats. They are on my mind a lot but not often in my art. I can’t do our black cats the justice they deserve for their inherent beauty. Still once in a while I try. This is a simple one and I hope you can feel the…

Stars over the Mountains
This one started a a black and white finger paint on my phone. It obviously needed more, so I moved it to my computer. I added some gradients, shading, a lot of color, and an artists mark. The phone art was taller and when I squared it the trees on the bottom were lost and…

Face June 8
I’m exploring a new open source office program. It has a drawing feature and I think I’m making progress as far as my learning curve goes. Today it’s just a face. I think he has all his parts. Let me know if I’ve missed something or even if you just like the design the way…

markezuma July 7
I did another abstract today and decided it needed a markezuma in the foreground. He is not very standardized though I do try to keep all of the elements in each iteration. He’s usually pretty curvy so the straight lines are a definite change. It took three graphics programs to have a finished product. I…

Nothing in Particular June 6
This is an abstract made by converting through two open source graphics programs. It wasn’t very much work but I think it turned out pretty well. Purple is Stephanie’s favorite color. The blue is for our oldest son. It started out as a png but sadly got converted to jpeg by a process I have…

Female Form
I decided to do something simple today, so I opened MS Paint. The brown background with streaks of orange came first. The foreground is a styled woman. the hourglass figure is one of my favorites to work with. There are several things I can do with it including dogs and dragons. But today it’s just…

Star Stare
The first few lines formed a face. I added an eye and some teeth. He was looking up at something but the upper right was empty. I draw one more line and decided he was looking up at a woman. I’ve told you I’m obsessed with hands and I thought he might be reaching up…

Dragon in a Bush
This is three layers of transparent background molded into a single work of art. The bottom layer is the jagged bush. On top of that is a dragon slowly turning invisible. The artist mark on the side overlays that. This is my first attempt at this sort of layering, but you should probably expect more…
